Collaboration
The Vans x Mission Workshop collaboration combined Vans’ authentic skateboarding heritage with Mission Workshop’s expertise in creating weatherproof and durable goods. The resulting sneakers were the the most technical Vans’ had launched to date, incorporating touches like 3M reflective mesh and water-resistant leather. These were paired with the first modular backpack designed to support the needs of everyday skater, which was equipped with the Arkiv® modular rails and could carry any of the existing Arkiv® accessories.
Bag Design
The field pack series by Mission Workshop, was the debut line to utilize the patented modular Arkiv® rail system that gives the bag freedom to evolve and adapt as needed. Whether built for specific trip needs or the inevitable change in personal routine from year to year, the Arkiv® modular system provided a “Less is more” solution for personal carry.
Collaboration
An international collaboration with Carhartt WIP and Pelago Bicycles under the mantra of Freeway Your Mind. The capsule collection included all that was needed to get around a city, the bike, the apparel, and the first ever roll-top duffle designed to be the ultimate porteur cargo hauler on and off that bike. The incorporates features that make it an exceptional traveler between continents as well as straps specific to getting around town once you have arrived.
BAG DESIGN
This original, expandable backpack design launched the Mission Workshop brand. It established MW as both an innovative design shop and forward looking brand. Consisting of 87 pattern pieces, the expandable cargo pack has proved to be an unreplicable design by competitors, which has enabled the backpack to maintain year-over-year sales growth for a decade.
Bag Design
To support NASA’s BASALT research project, Workshop 11 worked directly with the technology lead, to create a series of modular backpacks to house the telecommunications equipment used in Mars deployment simulation exercises. Utilizing our Arkiv® modular system, we developed a new removable backpack harness system in order for the radio unit to be carried with the appropriate backpack harness to best fit each team member, disassembled for repairs, and charged efficiently.
Apparel Design
The Eiger, The Styrman, and The Remi
These impressive jackets were made under the Advanced Projects label. They fill a gap in the market of packable outerwear ideal for city-to-city travel where weather situations vary widely and luggage space was limited. Each jacket incorporates Schoeller’s c_Change membrane applied to fine wool suit fabric face for a city-appropriate aesthetic with all the performance capabilities of expedition-grade jackets.

Mission Workshop’s initial apparel offering was a first to combine technical design manufacturing techniques with a street appropriate aesthetic. Following its successful debut, the concept became a market standard, becoming archetypal pieces for niche and mainstream brands alike.

Traverse Riding Short, Meridian Waterproof Jacket, Linear Jersey, Parallel Chamois
This collection launched under the Acre brand, as the most adaptable, rugged, and lightweight riding kit available. An unprecedented approach to mountain bike apparel, each innovative piece works in concert with one another to reduce the distraction of discomfort in foul and fair weather alike allowing him or her to fully focus on the trail ahead. Highlights include the integrated waist belt for single handed, on the fly tightening, the innovative, articulated patterns for performance on the bike and comfort throughout the day, and the utilization of the lightest, toughest materials available on the market at the time.
Collaboration
The North Coast Collection met at the intersection of two equally relevant but separate brand approaches. A collaboration where perfect tailoring meets technical details and classic style augments functional features. The collection consisted of 10 products that supported the core personal carry and apparel needs for a week abroad or a weekend escape: functional and tailored, refrained and refined.

The Hauser hydration pack brought a new perspective to the crowded hydration pack market. The Hauser perfected a form that was well suited to being on the trail for the entirety of the day, protected cargo from all the elements, and worked with all hydration bladders available to best suit customer preference.

The Rhake laptop backpack embodied the extensive customer input from the first 5 years of Mission Workshop’s existence. This multi-faceted design intended as the penultimate one-bag-to-do-it-all carry for the MW brand audience.
BAG DESIGN
The Chrome messenger bag is the embodiment of 90’s city bike culture. This indestructible bag was originally conceived for Denver bike messengers requiring an unbreakable and completely weatherproof bag to carry official documents through the widest range of weather conditions. Repurposed seat belt buckles evolved into the iconic custom release hardware that endures today 25 years after its inception.

The Transit, an adapted design from the bag originally conceived as part of the Carhartt WIP and Pelago collaboration, is one of the most versatile shoulder bags available. The nuanced design combines the best aspects of a briefcase and messenger with every carry scenario in mind, including bike-friendly straps and Arkiv® attachment to fully expand this ideal travel bag’s capabilities.
Bag Design
The only messenger bag created by Mission Workshop was the first messenger to incorporate a substantial removable shoulder strap design that allowed for on-the-fly, single-handed tightening. This first roll top design on the market also allowed for a more organized bag and easier access to the external compartments. Some limited editions also included the Arkiv® closure, a simple and elegant answer to long awaited question to providing lifetime warrantied bags with unbreakable hardware.
